Located in St Estephe, this wine was classified a cru bourgeois in 1932, and has always been considered one of the best wines in the appellation.

Chateau Picard, an 8 hectare estate is mostly planted with Cabernet Sauvignon (85%) on exceptional soil full of fossilised cockleshells and sea urchins. The wine is slightly smoky and spicy and high class. The wine is easy to identify because of its unusual label showing two flamingos standing on one leg, wings outstretched.

This St Emilion Grand Cru vinified from 60% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc is technically flawless- a very attractive wine.

Yields are quite low and the wine is kept on the skins for a long time. A very fruity wine, its elegance, finesse and well-integrated oak make La Couronne very enjoyable in its youth.

The Cheval Noir brand name was first registered in 1895 and this wine has a been a thoroughbred of the Mahler-Besse stable for over 60 years.
